Walailak University’s Educational Quality Assessment Results for 2022: Exceeds Standards

On November 23-24, 2023, a team of esteemed evaluators from both external and internal agencies conducted an assessment of Walailak University’s internal quality assurance for the 2022 academic year. The assessment was welcomed by Professor Dr. Sompot Tamrongthanyawong, Acting President of Walailak University, along with the university’s executive team. This year marked the first time Walailak University utilized the ASEAN University Network Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) standards, which include a 7-level scoring system, as part of its internal quality assurance process under the WUQA-U system.

The assessment results for the 2022 academic year indicate that Walailak University achieved a score of 5 in the U1 category for university management according to AUN-QA standards. This score reflects that the university’s operational quality is “Better Than Adequate.” Furthermore, when evaluating the four main criteria of U1—Strategic QA (U1.1), Systemic QA (U1.2), Functional QA (U1.3), and Results (U1.4)—the university consistently received a score of 5, indicating that the quality of operations exceeds the standard in each category.

In addition to these criteria, Walailak University has incorporated strategic indicators into its quality assurance processes under the U2 category, which assesses the implementation of university-wide strategies. The results revealed an average score of 6.47, signifying that the university has successfully achieved its OKR (Objectives and Key Results) strategic goals.

Associate Professor Dr. Suwit Wuttisittiphawee, Vice President of Walailak University and the overseer of the university’s quality assurance, commented on the recent assessment, noting that the evaluators praised Walailak University under the leadership of Professor Dr. Sompot Tamrongthanyawong, the current President. Dr. Sompot’s vision, leadership, strategic planning, and policy implementation were highlighted as key factors in guiding the university toward achieving its goals.

The evaluators commended the university for setting clear strategies aimed at becoming a quality institution with international standards. These strategies include reforming teaching methods based on the UKPSF framework from the UK, developing students’ knowledge in line with 21st-century frameworks, and enhancing the quality of faculty and support staff. The university is also focused on developing infrastructure to support its Green University initiative.

Additionally, the university has made advancements in IT systems in line with Smart University concepts, improved results-oriented management practices, and developed research output for publication in Scopus Quartile 1 and 2. Efforts have also been made in academic services to address community needs by integrating community issues into the university’s focus.
