Walailak University and CPF Sign Collaboration Agreement to Develop Academic Work and Produce Graduates Aligned with Labor Market Needs
On December 6, 2023, Professor Dr. Somboon Thamrongthanyawong, Acting President of Walailak University (WU), and Mr. Prasit Boondoungprasert, Chairman of the Executive Board of Charoen Pokphand Foods Public Company Limited (CPF), signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on academic development. This agreement aims to produce graduates who meet the needs of the industry and labor market, starting with the programs in Agricultural Science and Innovation, and Food Science and Innovation.
The signing ceremony took place at the Board Room, 30th Floor, CP Tower Silom, Bangkok, and was attended by faculty members from Walailak University, executives from CPF, and media representatives, totaling more than 50 people.
Professor Dr. Somboon Thamrongthanyawong stated that as the world moves towards Industry 5.0, all sectors, including education, must prepare for changes and challenges. The university focuses on research and academic services while producing future-ready graduates with high potential. He expressed gratitude to CPF for this collaboration, which provides valuable opportunities for the younger generation to contribute to sustainable national development and enhance human resources to meet the rapid changes in the food industry, thereby boosting global competitiveness.
“In the initial phase, we will pilot the development of Bachelor’s degree programs in Agricultural Science and Innovation and Food Science and Innovation. We also plan to extend collaboration to other programs such as Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, and Artificial Intelligence to align with industry needs,” Professor Dr. Somboon added.
Mr. Prasit Boondoungprasert noted that CPF operates a fully integrated agribusiness and food company, adhering to the philosophy of threefold benefits for sustainability: for the country, the people, and the company. He emphasized that human resources are crucial for advancing the business. The partnership with Walailak University aims to elevate education and research standards and produce high-quality graduates tailored to business and labor market needs. This includes integrating knowledge and real-world practices, working closely with experts, and utilizing technology and innovation to ensure food security. This aligns with CPF’s commitment to developing skilled and capable individuals to drive the country’s economy towards stable and sustainable growth.
Under this MoU, both parties agree to engage in various forms of academic collaboration, including:
- Exchange of research personnel
- Exchange of educational data
- Joint research and development
- Collaborative curriculum development
- Inviting guest lecturers or speakers
- Project advising
- Hosting internships and cooperative education programs
- Academic service projects
- Short-term specialized training
- Community service activities
- Other forms of collaboration as mutually agreed upon
This collaboration is set within a framework of 5 years.
