Walailak University, in collaboration with Nakhon Si Thammarat Province and the Nakhon Si Thammarat Provincial Office, signed an MOU for the utilization of the Walailak University International Conference Building.
Walailak University, in collaboration with Nakhon Si Thammarat Province and the Nakhon Si Thammarat Joint Public and Private Sector Committee for Economic Development and Problem Solving (Nakhon Si Thammarat Provincial Economic Development Committee), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the utilization of the Walailak University International Conference Building. The agreement aims to promote the economic development of Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, support its designation as a “Model City” (MICE City), and advance medical or health tourism policies.
On March 25, 2024, Professor Dr. Somboon Thamrongthanyawong, Acting President of Walailak University, and Mr. Kajornkiat Rakpanichmanee, Governor of Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, signed the MOU. The ceremony was witnessed by Dr. Narongsak Sikao, Vice President of the Nakhon Si Thammarat Chamber of Commerce, and Mr. Prayoon Ngernphrom, President of the Nakhon Si Thammarat Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Korakot Tetranon, Senior President of the Nakhon Si Thammarat Chamber of Commerce, also participated as a representative. The event was attended by university executives, staff, and representatives from both the public and private sectors in Nakhon Si Thammarat, held at the Honor Room, Chulabhorn Medical Building, Walailak University Medical Center.
The MOU aims to support and promote the use of the Walailak University International Conference Building to advance the economic development of Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. The construction of this building is intended to enhance the university’s capacity to host activities for students, provide services to government agencies, the private sector, and the local community, and offer an alternative venue when existing meeting spaces are insufficient or unavailable. The agreement ensures that the utilization of the international conference building will not impact the availability of conference services provided by the private sector in the province.
Once the International Conference Building is completed, both parties agree to collaborate in using the facility for tourism industry-related events, professional conferences, exhibitions, and significant ceremonial events. This collaboration supports the province’s goal of becoming a “Model City” (MICE City) and promotes medical and health tourism policies. It also contributes to the development of the southern region as a Southern Economic Corridor (SEC), fostering innovation and creativity based on Agro-Bio-Economy, and increasing the value of goods and services. The partnership will drive economic development throughout Nakhon Si Thammarat, involving the university in academic services, research, knowledge exchange, and addressing various issues collaboratively.
