Walailak University Celebrates Its 33rd Anniversary with a Ceremony Honoring Personnel with Royal Decorations

Walailak University Holds Interfaith Merit-Making Ceremony and Royal Decoration Presentation in Honor of Its 33rd Anniversary

On March 28, 2025, at 8:00 AM, Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President of Walailak University, and Mr. Teerachai Chemnasiri, Chairman of the University Council, presided over the university’s 33rd anniversary celebration. The event began with a merit-making ceremony involving the offering of dry food and rice to 33 Buddhist monks, followed by a memorial prayer to honor Professor Dr. Vichit Srisa-arn, a key contributor to the university, as well as deceased faculty members, staff, and students.

The ceremony also included Islamic Du’a prayers and Christian blessings, symbolizing unity and spiritual well-being for university executives, staff, and students. The event was held beside Thaiburi Building and was attended by Mr. Somchai Leelanoi, Governor of Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, Colonel Wichan Sarikapan, Deputy Commander of the 41st Military Circle, distinguished guests, local leaders from Tha Sala District and Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, university executives, staff, and students.

In addition, the university held a presentation ceremony for royal decorations in front of the portrait of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn, along with the awarding of honorary recognitions to outstanding personnel and distinguished alumni, marking the university’s continued commitment to excellence and service to society.

On the same occasion, at the main auditorium of Thaiburi Building, Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President of Walailak University, delivered a welcome address and presented a summary of the university’s achievements over the past year. He emphasized the university’s strong commitment to continuously improving its global ranking, alongside the development of both its physical environment and academic excellence.

He highlighted the university’s priority on enhancing the quality of teaching and learning, and expressed his aspiration for Walailak University to become the most beautiful campus in Thailand.

On the same occasion, at the main auditorium of Thaiburi Building, Mr. Teerachai Chemnasiri, Chairman of the Walailak University Council, delivered a congratulatory speech in celebration of the university’s 33rd anniversary. He emphasized the university’s strong commitment to multiculturalism, as reflected in the morning’s interfaith merit-making ceremony. He also shared insights on organizational growth, cautioning against complacency and arrogance, and encouraged confidence grounded in ethical leadership—highlighting the values of integrity, morality, and compassion. His hope is for Walailak University to become one of the Top 5 universities in Thailand in the near future.

The event continued with a royal decoration presentation ceremony held in front of the portrait of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn. The ceremony included:

  • 2 recipients of royal decorations in the sash class
  • 54 recipients of decorations below the sash class
  • 18 recipients of the Direkgunabhorn class
  • 31 staff members honored with gold rings for 25 years of continuous service
  • 4 individuals receiving commemorative gifts for over 30 years of service
  • 4 recipients of the Distinguished Alumni Award
