Walailak University President Meets Parents 2026, Highlighting World-Class Standards and a Commitment to Developing Quality Graduates.
On 6 May 2026, Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President of Walailak University, together with the University’s executive team, welcomed parents of incoming students during the 2026 academic year student orientation and preparation program.
The event sought to reinforce parents’ confidence in their decision to entrust their children’s education to a world-class institution. More than 3,500 participants attended the event at the Main Auditorium in the Thaiburi Building, Lecture Building 5, and Lecture Building 3 at Walailak University.
Professor Dr. Sombat delivered a special address titled “Walailak 2026: A World-Class University and Our Commitment to Student Care.” He highlighted the University’s recent progress, noting that Walailak University is currently ranked in the 1,201+ band worldwide and sixth in Thailand in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2026. The University has also retained its position as the number-one green university in Southern Thailand for six consecutive years, according to the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings 2025.
The University has transformed its teaching and learning through the UK Professional Standards Framework (UKPSF), emphasizing educational quality based on internationally recognized professional standards from the United Kingdom. Walailak University currently has 803 UKPSF-certified faculty members—the highest number in Thailand.
Other key strengths include English-language instruction delivered by international lecturers and modern Smart Classrooms designed to enhance students’ learning experiences.
The University has also made comprehensive preparations to support and care for students by providing a full range of facilities across its more than 9,000-rai campus. These include an extensive botanical park, an international-standard sports complex, student residences, and Walailak University Medical Center Hospital, which stands ready to care for students throughout their time at the University. A new international convention center is also under construction to accommodate the University’s growing student population.
“I would like to assure all parents that your children have made the right choice of university. Walailak University is fully committed to working tirelessly to ensure that every student graduates as a highly qualified individual who takes pride in their institution,” Professor Dr. Sombat said.
The event also featured a special performance by the President and the University’s executive team, who sang “Rak Walailak” and “Kiatiphum Walailak.” The performance created a memorable and heartfelt atmosphere, warmly and officially welcoming parents and students into the Walailak University family.
