Mitsubishi Corporation Japan Signs MOU with Walailak University’s School of Management to Launch a CSR Project Supporting Carbon Neutral Tourism in Krabi Province, with a Funding of 1 Million Baht
On October 1, 2024, Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President of Walailak University, together with Associate Professor Dr. Siwarit Phongsakornrangsin, Vice President, and Assistant Professor Dr. Pimlapas Phongsakornrangsin, Acting Dean of the School of Management, along with other university executives, officially welcomed senior executives from Mitsubishi Corporation Japan, led by Mr. Hiroyasu Sato, Chairman of Mitsubishi Corporation (Thailand) Ltd., during their visit to Walailak University. During the visit, Mitsubishi Corporation presented a financial support of 1 million baht.
Following the meeting, Assistant Professor Dr. Pimlapas Phongsakornrangsin stated that Mitsubishi Corporation Japan and Walailak University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to collaborate on a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project aimed at promoting Carbon Neutral Tourism (CNT) in Krabi Province. This initiative builds upon research supported by the Program Management Unit for Competitiveness (PMUC), with the primary goal of encouraging business practices that reduce carbon footprints, conserve the environment, and foster sustainable tourism development in Thailand.
In addition to the MOU, Mitsubishi Corporation provided a grant of 1 million baht to Walailak University to support research, human resource development, and public outreach activities related to carbon neutral tourism in Krabi. The School of Management will play a key role in implementing the CNT project through training programs and workshops led by experts from Walailak University. These activities aim to raise awareness and enhance the capacity of stakeholders in sustainable tourism, including transport operators, hotels, tour companies, restaurants, and local communities.
“This collaboration will create opportunities for knowledge exchange and experiential learning among students, academics, and faculty members. It will strengthen skills and knowledge, enhance international competitiveness, and most importantly, support the growth of carbon neutral tourism in Krabi, contributing to sustainable economic development,” said Assistant Professor Dr. Pimlapas.
